Like many of our
modern epic voices, LeToya's phenomenal musical
journey began in the humble surroundings of the
church choir. It didn't take long for her
immense talent to catch the eye of Matthew
Knowles, founder and manager of the group then
titled "Girl Time”. Girl Time later morphed
itself into the group now known as Destiny's
Child, which sold millions on their first
self-titled release and was hailed as one of the
most popular female R&B groups today.
Luckett was a
member of Destiny's Child from 1993 – 2000 prior
to her dismissal from the group. Although the
split was contentious, LeToya has moved forward
to pursue her dreams as an artist.
LeToya Luckett,
born March 11th in Houston, Texas, is a two time
Grammy Award winning artist and songwriter with
many talents.
Currently signed
to Capitol Records, she is working on her
self-titled debut album, scheduled for a spring
2006 release, includes her lead single "All Eyes
On Me” which features today's most recognizable
rappers out of the Southwest, Paul Wall & Slim Thugg. The project will be LeToya's first solo
venture since her days as a Destiny's Child
original member.
Luckett states,
"It's about coming into your own, getting your
self-esteem up”. "It's a real hot club joint.”
The album
producers include, Jermaine Dupri (Usher, Mariah
Carey), Just Blaze (Jay Z and DMX), Bryan-Michael
Cox (Alicia Keys, Jessica Simpson) and Jazze Phe,
while Houston rappers Mike Jones, Slim Thugg,
Paul Wall and Bun B make guest appearances and
add some local star power.
"I'm representing
Houston, I've always felt privileged to be from
Houston and I am glad people are seeing talent
come from there”, says Luckett.
While with
Destiny's Child, LeToya was multi-platinum
nominated National Recording Artist and two time
winner at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
In 2000, LeToya
was nominated for a Grammy as a co-writer on the
first album DESTINY'S CHILD for the single "Bills Bills Bills”.
She went on to
win two Grammy's as both co-writer and a
National Recording Artist for "Say My Name” from
the second album WRITINGS ON THE WALL in 2001,
which is RIAA Certified DIAMOND (10M SOLD).
She has appeared
on many national and local TV programs including
BET, MTV, MTVJams, Motown Live, Disney's "Smart
Guy”, Regis and Kathy Lee, Soul Train, Late Nite
with Conan O'Brien, MTV Italy, UK/Top of the
Pops and many others.
In addition to
her recording career, LeToya has ventured into
the fashion industry with a new store in Houston
"Lady Elle” boutique which carries women's
clothing including accessories, shoes, boots,
jewelry, purses and holds different designer
labels, such as Bejewled, Joe Jeans, Hale bob
and more.
